AMPUL (2025)
Ampul is a four-minute experimental short film rooted in the current political and social climate in Turkey and its impact on a generation of young people.
The film reflects on the growing feeling of being unable to breathe, belong, or imagine a future within an increasingly restrictive political environment. For many young people, leaving the country can begin to feel like the only possible form of escape. Yet departure does not necessarily mean freedom from the place one leaves behind.
Through a personal and intimate narrative, the film explores the contradiction of leaving a country while still loving it, and the impossibility of simply abandoning the language, memories, fears, and ways of thinking that have shaped you. The country remains present even after physical departure; carried internally, through thought and memory.
Although rooted in my own perspective, Ampul speaks to a wider experience shared by Turkish youth living through the current political reality of the country.
Dedicated to all Turkish youth, including myself.
